Miller Children’s
Prototyping / Design / Code
Having already completed the MemorialCare redesign, we were tasked with cloning the back-end CMS experience from MemorialCare over to Miller Children's and Women's Hospital, a location belonging to the larger MemorialCare health system. At the same time we needed to differentiate the new site from a design perspective.
Utilizing existing brand elements such as their hand-drawn illustration library and round shapes was a good start, but it felt like there was still an opportunity to differentiate further from the competition. In the healthcare world of bloated menus and confusing terminology, we zagged towards a (very) simple navigation. This was part of a larger effort to “hide” content until the user requested it instead of overwhelming them with information.
Another point of emphasis was making it fun! It is a children's hospital after all. We used a handful of different interactions to keep things light and approachable while maintaining an air of respectability.
Responsive
While this site wasn't technically built mobile-first as a result of cloning the MemorialCare site, it was always top-of-mind with over 60% of users on mobile devices. Maybe most importantly, ADA-compliance was regularly discussed and reviewed throughout the build process.
